I joined Northern Nevada locals who worked on the feature film Casa Grande for its regional premiere in Carson City April. 29. The movie features Lou Diamond Phillips, who came to the area way back in 2005 for the movie El Cortez. Lou has a reputation as a great person with a penchant for remembering people’s names—something another film commissioner told me about before the production company arrived in Reno. Sure enough, the second time I showed up on set, Lou said “Hi Robin.” I practically shouted, “I heard that about you,” and he responded with a bit of shock, “What!?” I eased off. “You remember names.” He smiled. “Yes, I think it’s important.” Of course, besides being a considerate, nice guy, he’s a terrific actor and he once again proves in Casa Grande. The movie opened with limited release in theaters. A follow-up to a 2023 series, it holds up as a standalone story.
