Review 2021 Top Ten LVFCS
Nevada’s major film critics’ group put a spin on the year’s top entries by highlighting the lesser-known movie CODA in four top categories.
The group chose CODA, which stands for Children of Deaf Adults, as best ensemble work and best family film plus, named Troy Kotsur as best supporting actor. The society also gave its “youth in film” acting award to newcomer Emilia Jones, who learned sign language to play the speaking daughter of deaf parents.
In other major rankings, the group selected Belfast as best picture. Former Las Vegas resident Nicolas Cage took best actor for the independent project Pig. Jessica Chastain, a Sacramento native, earned the best actress award for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Ariana DeBose won best supporting actress for West Side Story, which also garnered a direction award for Steven Spielberg.
Despite the name Las Vegas Film Critics Society, the group contains members from all over Nevada, including KUNR’s Robin Holabird in Reno.
The society chose
work in 27 categories, listed on the group’s website, LVFCS.org.
